FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

1. Where do I get a Mobile Printing Card?

Cards are exclusively available at HotSpots with mPod installations. Please contact the information at the Mobile Printing Station.

2. Where will I find Mobile Printing Stations?

We intend to place Mobile Printing Stations wherever business travellers spend time during their travels - in business lounges of airports, trains stations and hotels.

3. When will more stations be available?

Availability on a broad basis is planned from the fourth quarter of 2007 on.

4. What costs can I expect for the use of this service and how will the costs be billed?

For commercial use there will be a cost of between 40 and 70 Euro Cent for each colour laser page printed. Payments will be possible via credit cards, hotel invoices or other electronic payment systems.

5. Do I have to repeatedly install the Universal Driver in order to print with mPod?

No. The Universal Driver will only be installed once and recognizes HotSpots and the availability of Mobile Printing worldwide. You will also only need to enter your authentication data once to be able to print from any application as usual.

6. Do I have to know the sites of Mobile Printing Stations before I send my print job?

No. You can send your print job and then collect it from any Mobile Printing Station. The print jobs will be picked up from the central Mobile Printing Secure Server and sent to the Mobile Printing Station at which you authenticated yourself.

7. I cannot establish a wireless (WLAN) connection to the HotSpot. What is the problem?

Your notebook needs to be equipped with an – activated – WLAN interface.

If your notebook has a WLAN interface:

Many current notebook models have dedicated WLAN control keys to switch the connection on or off. Please hold down the “Fn” key of your keyboard and press the WLAN key (mostly showing either a stylized lighthouse or a PC with radio waves).

Usually the active mode will be indicated by a control lamp or accessible via a menu that appears separately.

You can also check for an activated 'wireless network connection' via

'Start' -> 'Settings' -> 'Network settings' (or 'Start' -> 'Settings' -> 'Control panel' -> 'Network settings'),

If available, please select with your mouse. A right click will open an activation/deactivation menu.

If you activate WLAN for the very first time you may have to restart your notebook.

If your notebook doesn’t have a WLAN interface:

USB-WLAN sticks or PCMCIA-WLAN cards should be available for your notebook. Please consult your dealer to ensure compatibility.

8. During the installation of the Universal Driver I was told to check my firewall settings. What do I have to mind?

While using the Mobile Printing service your print jobs will be passed on to a central Mobile Printing Secure Server where they are temporarily stored.

You need to set your firewall to allow and trust this server’s IP address. Otherwise your firewall will block any traffic to the Mobile Printing Secure Server and thus prevent you from using the Mobile Printing service.

A word on data confidentiality:

All print jobs will be encrypted on the notebook by the Universal Driver and can only be personally collected at the Mobile Printing Station. After a pre-defined period of time all print jobs not collected will be permanently erased from the server. This doesn’t need your interaction.

9. How can I check whether I can use the Mobile Printing service from my notebook?

1.) Universal Driver:

Please make sure the menu 'printers and faxes' contains the 'CCP Universal Printer'.
If not please install the driver, either directly from the CD or after downloading it from our website.

2.) WLAN connection:

Please make sure your notebook has an activated WLAN interface (see separate entry above)

3.) Connection to the HotSpot:

If you have an active WLAN connection please make sure you are connected to the HotSpot.

4.) Connection to the Mobile Printing Secure Server:

Please make sure that the 'CCP Universal Printer' (CCP Universal Driver) can connect to the central Mobile Printing Secure Server – especially if you use a firewall (see separate entry above)

PLEASE NOTE: DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES TO VALUES AND SETTINGS WHILE CHECKING THE CONNECTION AS DESCRIBED BELOW

  1. Open the Menu 'Start' -> 'Settings' -> 'Printers and faxes'
  2. Choose 'CCP Universal Printer'.
  3. Right click to open the submenu.
  4. Choose 'Print Properties' to open the 'Print Properties of CCP Universal Printer'.
  5. Choose tab 'Server'.
  6. Please click 'test connection'. The Universal Driver will now try to find the Mobile Printing Secure Server over the same route your encrypted print jobs will take later on.
  7. After a while you will see the response window 'CCP Universal Driver'.
If the attempt to connect was successful you will see details about the Mobile Printing Secure Server like:
name, location, the IP address and the storage time of your print jobs.
This also verifies the connection to the Mobile Printing Secure Server.
If the connection failed you will see a STOP sign.
If you do not have WLAN access to the HotSpot, the connection test will be indicated with an error message.
  8. Please close all windows.

10. Can I use the Mobile Printing Service with a Mac or an UNIX system?

We’re sorry, currently only Windows computers are supported. Nevertheless the Mobile Printing Service is available for you anyway. Please use the alternative Internet application "Document Upload", where you will find a detailed description.
